Legacy FM is seeking an Instructional Designer to develop learning materials for healthcare facilities management training programs. This remote, full-time position offers flexible office hours. Responsibilities include developing high-quality training materials, collaborating with subject matter experts, tailoring content for different audiences, maintaining consistency with brand standards, and conducting quality assurance reviews. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field, along with a minimum of three years of relevant experience. Technical writing skills and familiarity with instructional design models for adult learners are necessary for success.  


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in Instructional Design, Technical Writing, English, Journalism, Communication, or related field
  • Master’s Degree in Technical Communication, Writing Studies, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of three years of related experience in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, or a related field
  • Portfolio of writing samples, instructional materials, or e-learning modules required
  • Familiarity with facilities management, building construction, equipment operation, and maintenance fundamentals preferred
  • Professional certifications or course completion from the Society for Technical Communication (STC), Udemy, or Coursera preferred


Job Competencies

  • Develop high-quality written and visual material for educational training program development, adhering to industry standards such as backwards design, adult learning strategies, and document design principles. Clearly and precisely communicate complex technical concepts related to engineering, machinery, facilities management, construction, finance, and leadership.
  • Utilize instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate training materials. Develop design documents, course outlines, storyboards, instructional materials, assessments, and interactive learning activities.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to analyze learning needs, define learning objectives, and design effective learning experiences. Solicit feedback from subject matter experts, stakeholders, and learners to inform and continuously improve technical writing and other instructional design elements.
  • Tailor writing to suit the needs and knowledge level of the intended audience. Simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical readers and provide sufficient detail and depth for technical audiences. Anticipate and address potential questions or misunderstandings that could arise from the learning materials.
  • Demonstrate a keen attention to detail and accuracy in technical writing by meticulously researching and verifying technical information to ensure factual correctness and reliability. Develop writing free from errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Apply logical and effective document organizational structures such as headings, subheadings, lists, and tables, to facilitate comprehension and navigation. Present information in a coherent and intuitive manner to guide the reader through the content.
  • Ensure learning materials and other documents are accessible and user-friendly by incorporating visual aids, illustrations, diagrams, and examples to enhance understanding. Provide relevant background information, context, and real-world examples to help learners grasp the significance and application of the technical content.
  • Adhere to consistent branding, style guides, and formatting conventions. Maintain consistent terminology, formatting, and tone to enhance readability and maintain a cohesive writing style. Ensure content alignment with Legacy FM and client brand standards and compliance with industry regulations and best practices for accessibility and user experience.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure accuracy, clarity, and effectiveness of instructional materials.
  • Organization and time management skills necessary to meet deadlines and quality expectations.
