What is an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)?

An Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) is a living document that is regularly reviewed, updated, and tested to ensure a hospital is prepared for a range of emergencies and disasters. The safety and well-being of patients, staff, visitors, and the continuity of essential healthcare services during and after emergencies are the prime goals of an effective EOP. An EOP consists of six elements: communications, resources and assets, safety and security, staff responsibilities, utilities, and clinical activities. The plan must be reviewed for accuracy and to reflect current conditions annually.
