What is the correct way to loosen tightening bolts on a plate-and-frame heat exchanger?

Tightening bolts should be loosened gradually and evenly in a crisscross (diagonal) pattern. This releases pressure from the plate stack without twisting or damaging the frame. Each bolt should be backed off a little at a time to avoid putting stress on one side of the exchanger.
