Foundations of Life Safety: Rated Assemblies and Dampers

Description

This course provides a clear introduction to rated assemblies and dampers in healthcare facilities. Participants will learn the functions and fire-resistance rating (FRR) requirements of fire and smoke barriers, the inspection and code requirements for fire-rated doors, and the differences between fire, smoke, and combination dampers. By the end of the course, learners will understand how these systems work together to meet NFPA standards and ensure effective fire and smoke protection in healthcare environments.

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

1. Identify the functions and fire-resistance rating (FRR) requirements of fire walls, fire barriers, smoke barriers, and smoke partitions in healthcare facilities
2. Describe the code requirements and inspection practices for fire-rated doors, including ratings, hardware, glazing, latching, and labeling, based on NFPA 80 (2010)
3. Differentiate between fire dampers, smoke dampers, and combination dampers, and explain their applications, components, and code requirements according to NFPA 90A (2012) and NFPA 105 (2010)
