This course provides a clear introduction to rated assemblies and dampers in healthcare facilities. By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the functions and fire-resistance rating (FRR) requirements of fire walls, fire barriers, smoke barriers, and smoke partitions in healthcare facilities
  2. Describe the code requirements and inspection practices for fire-rated doors, including ratings, hardware, glazing, latching, and labeling, based on NFPA 80 (2010)
  3. Differentiate between fire dampers, smoke dampers, and combination dampers, and explain their applications, components, and code requirements according to NFPA 90A (2012) and NFPA 105 (2010)
