What is a Bypass Isolation Switch?

Bypass isolation switches (BISs) allow maintenance personnel to isolate electrical equipment from the power grid safely. This is important in health care facilities, where there is a risk of electrical shock or fire if the equipment is not properly isolated. BISs are typically used in conjunction with ATSs. When an ATS transfers power to a backup source, the BIS isolates the equipment from the primary power source. This prevents the equipment from being damaged by the transfer of power.
