What is a Profitability Index (PI)?

PI is a financial metric that measures the profitability of an investment relative to its cost. It is the ratio of the present value of the future cash flows of an investment to the initial cost of the investment. In other words, the PI measures how much value an investment is expected to generate for each dollar invested.
