What is the purpose of plugging tubes in a heat exchanger?

Plugging is used when individual tubes are leaking or damaged but the rest of the exchanger is still functional. Tube plugs isolate the damaged section, preventing leaks while allowing the rest of the bundle to operate. However, too many plugged tubes can reduce overall efficiency and should be documented for follow-up.
