What is the Stark Law?

The Stark Law is short for the Ethics in Patient Referrals Act. This Act prohibits physicians from providing self-referrals for certain health services that may be paid for by a federal healthcare program. An example would be a physician who has ownership of a physical therapy center and refers all his or her patients to that therapy center.
