The Foundations of Life Safety: Passive Systems and Means of Egress course introduces health care facilities staff to critical life safety systems that protect patients, staff, and visitors. Participants explore passive and active life safety features, including smoke compartments, fire-rated barriers, and storage limits, along with NFPA 101 (2012) requirements for means of egress, such as exit access, exits, and exit discharge.
The course shows how to interpret life safety drawings and apply defend-in-place evacuation strategies, helping learners plan safe patient movement during emergencies. Participants will strengthen their ability to maintain compliance, enhance emergency preparedness, and support safe hospital operations.
